10 Corporate Event Ideas Your Team Will Actually Enjoy

We've all been there.

An email lands in your inbox announcing the next team social and, before you've even opened it, you're wondering whether you can suddenly develop an unavoidable appointment that evening.

Corporate events can sometimes have a bit of a reputation.

But they really don't have to.

Whether you're organising a team social, entertaining clients, celebrating a company milestone or simply trying to get everyone away from their laptops for an afternoon, there are some genuinely brilliant corporate event ideas out there.

The trick is choosing something people will actually want to attend.

So, if you've been given the slightly daunting task of organising the next company event, here are ten ideas worth considering.

Corporate networking event
Rather than just having a gathering of colleagues, adding an event of theme helps make for a memorable occasion

1. Competitive Socialising

There's a reason competitive socialising has become so popular.

Think crazy golf, darts, shuffleboard, bowling, ping pong or even axe throwing.

They're easy to organise, don't require everyone to be particularly athletic and naturally get people talking.

More importantly, there's usually just enough competition to discover which of your colleagues takes losing at miniature golf far more seriously than anyone expected.

For larger companies, these venues can also work particularly well because people can move between activities rather than being stuck in one place all evening.

Great for: Team socials, larger groups and relaxed company celebrations.

2. Cooking Classes

Cooking classes are a brilliant option if you want something genuinely interactive.

Rather than everyone sitting around a table making small talk, you're immediately given something to do together.

Pizza making, pasta workshops, sushi classes and baking experiences are all widely available, and you get the added benefit of eating your creation afterwards.

There are also plenty of opportunities for a little friendly competition.

Just make sure someone checks the dietary requirements before announcing that the entire finance department will be making steak.

Great for: Smaller teams, team building and groups looking for a hands-on experience.

3. Escape Rooms

Locking your colleagues in a room together might not immediately sound like the greatest employee reward.

Bear with me.

Escape rooms are excellent for communication, problem solving and teamwork without feeling like a traditional corporate team-building exercise.

Everyone naturally falls into different roles.

You'll discover the person who's brilliant at puzzles, the person who somehow spots every hidden clue and the person who spends twenty minutes confidently investigating something that isn't actually part of the game.

Every team has one.

Great for: Small and medium-sized teams and companies looking for a genuine team-building activity.

4. A Private Whisky Tasting

Now we're entering familiar territory.

A corporate whisky tasting works particularly well because it sits somewhere between entertainment and an experience.

People aren't simply handed a drink.

They're taken through different whiskies, stories, flavours and food pairings, with plenty of conversation along the way.

And you absolutely don't need a room full of whisky experts.

In fact, some of my favourite guests are the ones who arrive saying:

"I don't really like whisky."

There's something incredibly satisfying about finding the dram that changes their mind.

At Barrel & Bond, I bring the entire tasting directly to the company or chosen venue — whiskies, glassware, food pairings and everything needed for the experience.

It means the event can take place in an office, hotel, conference venue or private event space without everyone having to travel somewhere afterwards.

Great for: Client entertainment, team socials, networking events, Christmas parties and company celebrations.

5. Cocktail Making

If whisky isn't everyone's thing, cocktail making is another great option.

A good cocktail masterclass is interactive, sociable and gives everyone something to do while still leaving plenty of time for conversation.

They're particularly good for mixed groups because you can usually offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

And watching your managing director attempt to shake a cocktail like Tom Cruise in Cocktail may be worth the ticket price alone.

Great for: Team socials, Christmas parties and informal corporate entertainment.

6. Street Food Experience

Sometimes you don't need an organised activity at all.

Good food can be enough.

Hiring a street-food venue, visiting a food hall or bringing several vendors to your workplace creates a relaxed environment where people can wander around, try different things and talk naturally.

This works particularly well for larger companies where structured activities can become difficult to organise.

You can even turn it into a miniature food festival with music, drinks and different cuisines.

Great for: Large teams, summer parties and company-wide celebrations.

7. Outdoor Adventure Day

If your team spends most of its working life sitting behind desks, getting everyone outdoors can be a welcome change.

Depending on how adventurous your colleagues are, that could mean:

  • Hiking

  • Kayaking

  • Paddle boarding

  • High ropes

  • Zip lining

  • Orienteering

  • Go-karting

The key here is knowing your audience.

There's a difference between "a nice countryside walk followed by lunch" and "we've booked everyone onto a 100-foot abseil."

Participation shouldn't feel compulsory.

Great for: Active teams, summer events and full-day company socials.

8. Live Entertainment

Sometimes the best corporate event idea is simply putting on a really good show.

Live music, comedians, magicians and other performers can completely change the atmosphere of an event.

This works particularly well if you're already planning dinner, drinks or an awards evening and want something memorable to break up the night.

Close-up magicians are especially good for networking events because they can move between groups rather than requiring everyone to stop what they're doing.

Great for: Awards evenings, client entertainment, Christmas parties and larger corporate events.

9. Charity Challenge

Not every corporate event needs to revolve around entertainment.

Doing something for a good cause can be one of the most rewarding ways to bring a team together.

That could include:

  • Charity runs

  • Sponsored walks

  • Volunteering days

  • Food-bank projects

  • Environmental clean-ups

  • Fundraising challenges

The best charity events are usually connected to something the team genuinely cares about rather than being treated as another box to tick.

Done properly, everyone leaves feeling they've spent their time doing something worthwhile.

Great for: Team building, company CSR initiatives and larger organisations.

10. Turn Your Office Into the Venue

This one is often overlooked.

You don't necessarily need to hire somewhere.

Bringing an experience into the workplace can make organising a corporate event considerably easier.

You could bring in street food, live music, a quiz host, cocktail making or a mobile whisky tasting and transform a familiar space for the evening.

There's no additional venue for everyone to find, fewer transport complications and considerably more flexibility over timings.

It can also be surprisingly effective seeing somewhere normally associated with spreadsheets and Teams meetings suddenly turned into an event space.

Great for: After-work socials, smaller budgets and companies wanting an easy-to-organise event.

How Do You Choose the Right Corporate Event?

Before booking anything, I'd ask three questions.

Will people actually enjoy it?

It sounds obvious, but it's surprisingly easy to choose something because it sounds impressive rather than because the team will genuinely enjoy it.

Think about the people attending.

A group of ten will have very different requirements from a company event for 150.

Does everyone have to participate?

The best corporate team-building ideas give people the option to get involved without making anyone uncomfortable.

Not everyone wants to sing karaoke, climb a wall or reveal their competitive streak in front of the CEO.

Will people actually talk to each other?

For me, this is the big one.

The best corporate events create conversation.

That's particularly important if you've got people from different departments or offices who rarely get the opportunity to spend time together.

An activity should help start those conversations rather than get in the way of them.

What About Client Entertainment?

If you're organising an event for customers rather than colleagues, I'd approach things slightly differently.

Client entertainment ideas should give people something memorable to experience while still leaving enough space for conversation.

That's why experiences such as whisky tastings, private dining, live entertainment and food experiences can work particularly well.

The activity gives everyone something to talk about without dominating the entire evening.

You want your clients to remember the experience — but you also want them to remember the people they shared it with.

Why Whisky Tasting Works Particularly Well for Corporate Events

Obviously, I'm going to have a slight preference here.

But there's a reason I've found whisky tasting works so well in a corporate environment.

It's naturally social.

Put a whisky in front of ten people and ask them what they can smell and you'll probably get ten different answers.

Suddenly everyone is talking.

Someone finds vanilla.

Someone finds apple.

Someone confidently announces they're getting bananas.

And someone else says it just smells like whisky.

All perfectly valid answers.

That conversation is what makes the experience work.

With Barrel & Bond corporate whisky tastings, I bring a selection of whiskies together with carefully chosen food pairings and guide everyone through the story behind each dram.

The atmosphere is relaxed rather than formal, and you don't need any previous whisky knowledge.

It's about discovering something new together rather than sitting through a lecture about whisky.

Final Thoughts

There isn't one perfect corporate event.

The right choice depends on your team, your budget, the number of guests and what you actually want people to get from the experience.

Maybe that's bringing everyone together after a busy year.

Maybe it's thanking your team.

Maybe you're entertaining an important client.

Or maybe everyone just deserves an afternoon away from their inbox.

Whatever you choose, my biggest piece of advice is simple:

Give people something they'll genuinely enjoy talking about afterwards.

And if that happens to involve six whiskies and six food pairings, I might know someone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some unusual corporate event ideas?

Private whisky tastings, cooking classes, street-food experiences, escape rooms, outdoor adventure days and interactive entertainment can all offer something different from the traditional corporate dinner or drinks reception.

What are good corporate event ideas for small groups?

Smaller groups are particularly well suited to interactive experiences such as whisky tastings, cooking classes, escape rooms and cocktail making because everyone can participate together.

What makes a good corporate team-building event?

A good team-building event should encourage conversation and collaboration without feeling forced. The best experiences give people something to do together while still allowing everyone to participate at their own comfort level.

Can you hold a corporate event in the office?

Absolutely. Mobile experiences can bring entertainment directly to your workplace. Barrel & Bond, for example, provides mobile corporate whisky tastings with the whisky, glassware, food pairings and tasting materials brought directly to your venue.

Do guests need to know about whisky before attending a corporate whisky tasting?

Not at all. A good guided tasting should be just as enjoyable for someone trying whisky for the first time as it is for someone with a collection at home.
